Traditional
Traditional Drawings
As a young kid I really liked drawing, but I didn’t really think that I was any good. Then when I stepped in to college, I just told myself to do it. I was still very afraid to touch a lot of digital work, so I stayed my hand at traditional! The way that I kept myself focused were due to finding different art challenges. The creator of these art challenges wanted us artists to use these words and create a piece that reflected the challenge. Below are a couple of my takes on these challenge words.
Main Tools: Sakura Pigma Microns & Brushes, Sharpie Markers, Colored Pens, 9”x12” Sketchpad
Art Challenge: Unite/Divide
“In today's world, there stands a bunch of us that are united. Also in today's world, there stands a bunch of us that are divided. Where we once knew some trusted people in our lives that we trusted, united like family. Then the next moment we know we were betrayed, becoming enemies, divided.”
Today’s social and political society is a perfect example for this challenge. Whether it be racism, sexism, politics, there’s always different viewpoints from numerous people.
Art Challenge: Velocity
This was my take on velocity. This is an in-game character from League of Legends named Malphite. With one of his skills he closes in distance quickly to the enemy and knocks them up into the sky, causing them to be stunned.
Art Challenge: Transparent Pt. 1
“People say that they can see through you after knowing you for so long, but do they really?”
This first image of Transparent shows words within the eye, words that only that person sees and feels represents, and their struggles with today’s life and society.
Art Challenge: Transparent Pt. 2
“People say that they can see through you after knowing you for so long, but do they really?”
The second image of Transparent lightens up, asking the question, “Am I really transparent?” This hints that the person is now being viewed from the outside, that everyone else can see the struggles the person is going through on a daily basis.
Art Challenge: Memory
“Things that happened, and are still happening. I am thankful for all of the memories that I have made, and for the memories to come.”
Everyone has their memories that they cherish. Their family, friends, belongings that have given them the outlet to go out and do things that they before couldn’t do. These things that are in the image represents the things that I care about the most, and are something that I will never forget.
Tools: Black cardstock, Sakura 0.4 White Gelly Roll
Art Challenge: Envy
“People are envious. Simple. We want things that someone else wants/has. Whether it's drawing, streaming, playing games, the body you want, money, LOVE, we all want it. Too much of this and things can go down REAL quick.”
Creating this piece, I decided I wanted to go in a different direction with Iconography. This was a direction that I wanted to focus on for a brief period, knowing that this could benefit me down the road.
Art Challenge: Deliver
This was a small story that I wanted to create, thinking this would create a lighter tone than a couple of the previous challenges.
Art Challenge: Danger
This challenge word was for the 1-year anniversary of an artist’s art chalklenge. Upon seeing this word, I thought of one of my favorite characters from the fighting game series Guilty Gear named Chipp Zanuff, with a more personal twist to the character’s looks. After a couple of critique from multiple artists, I decided to make some changes to this piece shown on the right.
